Alpine skiing and mountain huts

People that love mountain adventures would agree that Alpine skiing is fun. It feels good when we slide down the snow-covered hills.

A few things about mountain huts in the Alpine region:
  • Mountain huts, built and owned by different Alpine clubs stay open during the season, and these provide good service.
  • Huts are open to everyone, but non-members may have to pay more for the room. Even Private huts are available.
  • About accommodation in a hut - one may not have to take cooking and/or sleeping equipment with them, except if someone decides to camp outside.
  • Some huts may get busy during the main season. Hence, book huts in advance, to avoid last minute rush.
  • During the ski season, huts might not provide (running) water, and one may have to melt ice on the stove for different uses.
  • Inform the guardian about your arrival and food preferences. This would them plan meals.

Alps Mountaineering

Mountaineering is fun. This sport can be dangerous, and people that look out for ski mountaineering in the snowbound Alps – a word of caution: do not consider it without proper training or experience, no matter whether it is a known path or the unexplored one.

Before the mountain tour, check if it is the ideal season of the year, and choose the mountain route.

A summer route may not always be a ski route. Weather conditions may change any time. Beware of snow avalanches. Check the weather forecast and avalanche bulletins.

Determine the landscape. Keep maps and guidebooks at hand to know difficulties on the way and for any help in need. This will help one even know escape routes during adverse weather or snow conditions.

Be properly equipped. Make sure the group has people with relevant skills and ability to tackle challenges on the way.
