Climb Pyrenees mountain range in Europe, with Rob

Rob Turner has a reason to join other cyclists from Aston Cantlow to the Pyrenees mountain range (in Europe). One must say a ‘nice’ idea to celebrate the 70th birth anniversary and prove to the world that – AGE is just a number.

To climb 26 mountains and cycle 530 miles [in a marathon event] is not an easy task, but for this 70-year ‘young at heart’ man, there is nothing impossible in life. He will start his journey on 28th August from Biarritz with a mission to provide funds towards charity, in memory of his nephew who died of bowel cancer.

The 70-year old Rob even reminisces cycling alongside Boris Johnson in the 100 mile London event, on August 4th 2013.

Now, everyone can contribute and be a part of the mission: http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/robturner7

Stay tuned with AlpyBus for the latest news from the UK travel and tourism sector and for low cost private and shared transfers from Geneva Airport.

Though not elite athletes or with any track records, the girls with the mission to raise funds for charity are under severe training for the long-distance running event.

Running for them is not a solitary pursuit but a team effort. For these young women, running is their support system, passion and freedom.

Best of luck!

Happy Holidays, from Simon Carrelli @ AlpyBus

Hi,

I would like to thank everyone who travelled with AlpyBus this winter 2012/13. AlpyBus is Geneva' number one low cost transfer service and the pioneer in shared and private transfers to the Alps. This year we invested heavily in a brand new fleet of minibuses and acquired our first ever coach - bringing our fleet of vehicles to 17 in total. With the added fleet came a whole host of new drivers and admin personnel - nearly all of whom should be returning for the following season. Our fleet is proudly the most modern in the industry and these new luxury minibuses comply with the latest tough Euro 5 emissions regulations so we’re also continuing to reduce our carbon footprint as well!

Our three main routes Chamonix, Verbier and Morzine have witnessed strong growth, again, in terms of passenger numbers transported and Morzine/Avoriaz in particular reported growth rates of over 25%. Load factors were up 12% from last year for all three routes and we reported a strong improvement in private transfers to the Italian and Swiss Alps. We were exceptionally happy to see tourists returning to Verbier in their droves in spite of the highly priced Swiss Franc. We also saw a marked increase in the number of last minute ticket sales coming from Geneva Airport, which is a result of our better working relationship with the Airport and Gare Routiere.

I'm sure the bumper season of snow played a part :)  - but continuing efforts in online advertising, improvements to our website, strong team spirit and keeping our fares the lowest in the industry have all played a part in this seasons success.

AlpyBus will reopen on 15th June for summer transfers to Chamonix from Geneva Airport and we will also be offering day excursions from Geneva to a variety of places, like Annecy, Montreux, Gruyere and more.

The company is continuously growing and looking at rolling out more vehicles to add to the current fleet. We will be unveiling a new shared route very soon so please keep in touch via Twitter for that update.

We thank you for your continued trust and hope to see you on board again soon!!!

Happy Holidays,

Simon Carrelli

An Avalanche is a matter of minutes

People that love to visit mountains and resorts know that Avalanches happen without any word of warning. One should be prepared to deal with difficulties on the way.

Large volume of unstable snowpack and ice/rock flow down from the mountain and wipe out everything on its way.

Some of the reasons of avalanche: Rise in temperature, Explosion of any kind, Earthquake, Volcanic Eruption, Heavy Rain, Snowstorm and other natural causes.

Slab avalanche is the deadliest one while loose snow, wet avalanche, and icefall avalanches are some other types of avalanches.

An icefall avalanche is rare, and one may not predict it in advance. Check the weather forecast prior one decides to hike any snow-filled mountain.

People that desire for family holidays in the French Alps can contact AlpyBus for information about the mountain and ski resorts, and popular tourist destinations nearby.

Improve skiing skills for the next season

Skiing is fun, but one can be physically hurt with a wrong move, or by practicing an inappropriate skiing technique or method.

‘Practice makes a man perfect’. Beginners can learn basic skills at low slopes, with less obstruction, and can even improve their skiing skills at indoor snow venues, with experienced ski professionals.

Skiing demands body fitness, functional movements and balance. One should be FIT enough to try out skiing at different slopes.

Proper exercise/workout is necessary, for stability and flexible movements at sharper turns, to avoid getting injured.

It may take some time for one to be an athletic skier like others, to try out different skiing slopes. One should follow professional ski instructor, and never try any movement on one’s own, as that can be fatal.

So folks, learn to ski in a proper way, and be an advanced skier by next season, to have fun at mountain ski resorts, with everyone.

What is your next ski destination: Colorado, France, Switzerland or any other mountain resort?

Contact AlpyBus for ski tips and information about ski resorts and lodges, for weekend holidays with family and friends.

Nothing lasts forever, but it seems the ski season is here to stay for longer than expected.

For some resorts, the ski season is almost over, but not for all resorts, where the skiing still continues...

Mother Nature has been kind to ski resorts, this season. Some ski resorts that planned to shut announced they will reopen terrains for tourists.

Alps Mountaineering

Mountaineering is fun. This sport can be dangerous, and people that look out for ski mountaineering in the snowbound Alps – a word of caution: do not consider it without proper training or experience, no matter whether it is a known path or the unexplored one.

Before the mountain tour, check if it is the ideal season of the year, and choose the mountain route.

A summer route may not always be a ski route. Weather conditions may change any time. Beware of snow avalanches. Check the weather forecast and avalanche bulletins.

Determine the landscape. Keep maps and guidebooks at hand to know difficulties on the way and for any help in need. This will help one even know escape routes during adverse weather or snow conditions.

Be properly equipped. Make sure the group has people with relevant skills and ability to tackle challenges on the way.
